Amanda demonstrated a technique she uses to create “texture slabs” that she applies to her work. In the piece below you can make out a skeleton surrounded by her signature rosebuds.
Amanda carves a design into a black rubbery mat using a print making blade. The mat is available at Opus, and is called “Print Block Black.” The blade is available at TRU in the student supplies store.

This techniques opens up all kinds of possibilities. At times Amanda will heat the block to soften it for easier carving. Thicker mat also allows for a deeper cut, and more pronounced lines in the clay. These “texture slabs” can be any size, any thickness, and applied in many situations.
